About Lesson

Structure and Scoring for the Four Sections

 

  • Listening:

    • Duration: 30 minutes + 10 minutes for transferring answers.
    • Structure: Four recordings (conversations and monologues) with 40 questions.
    • Scoring: Band scores range from 1 to 9, focusing on accuracy in understanding main ideas, specific details, and opinions.

 

  • Reading:

    • Duration: 60 minutes.
    • Structure:
      • Academic: Three long passages from books, journals, or newspapers.
      • General: A mix of short texts such as notices, advertisements, and longer articles.
    • Scoring: Comprehension is assessed through 40 questions, using a band score system.

 

  • Writing:

    • Duration: 60 minutes.
    • Tasks:
      • Academic: Task 1 involves describing data (graphs, tables, maps); Task 2 requires an essay.
      • General: Task 1 involves letter writing; Task 2 involves essay writing.
    • Scoring: Marks are awarded for task achievement, coherence, grammar, and vocabulary.

 

  • Speaking:

    • Duration: 11–14 minutes.
    • Structure: A face-to-face interview comprising:
      • Part 1: Personal questions about everyday topics.
      • Part 2: A 1–2 minute monologue based on a cue card.
      • Part 3: A discussion on abstract ideas or issues.
    • Scoring: Fluency, pronunciation, lexical range, and grammatical accuracy are considered.
